1. What is Solution Focused Hypnotherapy?
Solution Focused Hypnotherapy is a modern, evidence-based form of psychotherapy that combines solution focused talking therapy with hypnosis.
Rather than focusing on the past or analysing problems in detail, we focus on helping you move forward and create positive change.
During sessions, you’ll learn how your brain works, why anxiety and stress affect the way we think and behave and how to build healthier thought patterns.
Hypnosis then helps your mind relax deeply, allowing your brain to absorb positive suggestions and reinforce the changes we’ve discussed.
2. Who can benefit?
Almost anyone can benefit from Solution Focused Hypnotherapy.
Many of my clients come to me struggling with things such as:
- Anxiety and stress
- Overthinking and overwhelm
- Low confidence or self-esteem
- Panic attacks
- IBS and stress-related symptoms
- Insomnia and sleep difficulties
The most important factor is your willingness to engage in the process and make positive changes.
3. What is hypnosis? Will I be put to sleep?!
No- you won’t be asleep or unconscious.
Hypnosis (sometimes called trance) is actually a very natural and familiar state. You may experience it when you’re driving, watching television or absorbed in a book.
During hypnosis, you remain completely aware and in control. It simply allows your mind to become deeply relaxed and focused.
You don’t have to ‘do’ anything during this part of the session- just sit back, relax and listen.
Some people feel very focused, while others let their mind drift. Both are completely normal and the process still works.
4. Will I have to talk about my past?
No.
Solution Focused Hypnotherapy focuses on the present and the future, not analysing past events.
Instead of revisiting difficult experiences, we focus on:
- what’s already working well in your life
- the changes you would like to make
- practical steps to help you move forward
This is one of the reasons many people find this approach refreshing and empowering.
5. What happens during a session?
Each session is made up of two parts.
- Solution focused talking therapy– We talk about what’s been going well since the previous session and identify the small steps that are helping you move forward. The focus is always on solutions and progress, rather than problems.
- Hypnosis– The second part of the session is a relaxing guided hypnosis. This allows your mind to consolidate the positive changes and ideas we’ve discussed. Many clients describe this part of the session as deeply relaxed and enjoyable.
6. How many sessions will I need?
The number of sessions varies depending on the person and what you would like help with.
Some people notice improvements quite quickly, while others benefit from a longer period of support.
Solution Focused Hypnotherapy works best when sessions are attended regularly and consistently, allowing positive changes to build over time.
7. Is hypnotherapy safe?
Yes, hypnotherapy is a very safe and natural process.
You remain aware and in control throughout the session and cannot be made to do anything you don’t want to do.
The approach used in Solution Focused Hypnotherapy is positive, collaborative and focused on wellbeing.
8. What if I’m unsure whether Solution Focused Hypnotherapy is right for me?
That’s completely normal.
The first step is an initial consultation, where we talk about what you’re experiencing and how Solution Focused Hypnotherapy works.
This gives you the opportunity to ask questions and decide whether the approach feels right for you.
